Worship

What to Expect Sunday Morning

The structure of our worship service is based on Reformed Presbyterian patterns of worship that strike a balance between traditional order and contemporary language.

We hope to see you there!

Sunday School

Sunday School begins at 9 a.m. most Sundays. Children and Youth Sunday School takes place in the Bullard Building, located directly behind the main church building. Adult Sunday School classes are held in the Edington Building and in the main church building

Sunday Worship

Worship begins at 10:30 each Sunday morning. There are additional worship services throughout the year during special times on the church calendar.

Music plays a significant role in worship at SHPC. We have an outstanding choir and also include a good deal of congregational singing, such as hymns and responses, typically accompanied by the organ.

Hearing assistance devices are available from an usher; large print hymnals are available in many pew racks or from an usher. After the worship service, coffee is served in the Fellowship Hall, please join us there.

If you have children

We believe that children belong in worship! We also recognize that children at different ages and stages have different needs.

CHILDREN 3 years of age through first grade are welcome at the beginning of worship to hear the children’s sermon and then may proceed with a volunteer to the Bullard Building for Children’s Church. Parents may pick up their child(ren) from the Bullard Building following the service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have online services?

Our worship services are streamed to our YouTube channel. Of course, we’d love to have you come to church in person, but sometimes we can come to you!

What should I wear?

You’ll see a wide variety of clothing ranging from “Sunday dress” to more casual fare. Dress as you feel most comfortable.

I’m not a member, can I take communion?

We typically celebrate the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper (sometimes called “communion”) once a month. As Presbyterians, we believe in an “open table,” meaning that all are welcome to participate in the sacrament, regardless of what church background you come from.

What role do youth have in worship?

One of our most anticipated Sundays is “YOUTH SUNDAY”! Our youth create, plan and deliver worship on this Sunday. Youth select and perform music, liturgy and sermons with a refreshing and ‘youthful” point of view.

What will the music be like?

The music in the service is led by vocal and instrumental ensembles and the pipe organ is the primary instrument used to accompany, but the style of music spans many centuries and many styles, from Renaissance to Gospel
